Nikon is a Japaneese company established in Tokyo, 1917. Nikon is doing business in the imaging industry and Michio Kariya is the current President, CEO & COO. Nikon manufactures binoculars, industrial equipment, surveying instruments, cameras, measurement instruments. The word Nikon means "Japan Optical". The company made a name for itself during World War II when it was supplying the Japanese military with optics such as binoculars, lenses, bomb sights and periscopes. When the war ended, the company switched to the civil market. Nowadays, Nikon is expanding at tremendous rates and it's getting more and more customers. There are separate divisions in North America - Nikon Precision Inc and Nikon Research Corporation of America (NRCA). As of 2006, the company is no longer producing film camera models and has gone digital.

Since Nikon produced its first binocular back 1918, it's known for being committed to high quality and constant technological improvements and advancements in the design of binoculars. In 1994, Nikon received the prestigious ISO 9001 award in recognition of excellence in quality control, the first Japanese binocular manufacturer to be so honored. This award guarantees that Nikon make sure each part of the process from production to shipment and maintenance support is conducted in a way that Nikon binoculars will provide precise performance and smooth operation for years to come.

Nikon produces Tele-converters, that are placed between a working lens and the camera body to increase the focal length of the lens in use. It wasn't Nikon's idea to start with, but nevertheless, Nikon embraced it over three decades ago (in 1976, the TC-1, TC-2 teleconverters), and has now settled as one of the leaders in this market. Such Tele-converters can double or triple the focal length. It works by extending the focus point of the converging light rays further back, so the focal length is increased.

Nikon TC-E15ED Tele-Converter Lens increases the focal length of the camera 1.5 times. It also maximizes the zoom ratio when the camera is at maximum zoom. Best performance is achieved when used with Coolpix 5400 and 5700. Nikon TC-E15ED converts Coolpix 5700 focal length to 420mm (35mm equivalent). It requires UR-E8 ring adapter. Nikon always advices to change lenses when the camera is turned off.

Nikon TC-E2 Telephoto Lens Adapter doubles the focal length of your camera's lens and at the same time retains the auto-focus and auto exposure functions. This Tele lens adapter is for capturing wild life and sports action. The reduced depth of field allows subjects to strongly stand out against the background while it can also provide a 'flat' perspective. The advantages of this Nikon Tele Lens converter is that it brings the subject closer, it highlights details (it can focus on a specific element of your subject) and allows for candid shooting.
