Compact Binocular
Binoculars are optical instruments that magnify the image being viewed. It's called bi-nocular, because "bi" stands for the number 2, since we have two identical telescopes mounted side-by-side and aligned to point in the same direction. Generally, there are two types of binoculars, depending on the diameter of the lenses - compact and traditional. Compact binoculars have a smaller lens diameter, hence they gather less light compared to traditional ones. Less light means the image will not that clear and sharp, but on the other side, the advantage of a compact binocular is its size and the fact you can carry in your pocket. So you have to make a choice between portability and image quality. Your choice should depend on what you will be using the binocular for.
Traditional binoculars have the advantage of providing brighter images, higher levels of magnification and greater angle of view. That's because the larger lens can absorb more light.
But modern technology has now allowed even smaller binoculars to provide clear and bright images. Compact binoculars combine the convenience of carrying a pocket size binocular with high quality imaging capabilities making them perfect for sport events or concerts. The leading manufacturers of compact binoculars are Bushnell, Leica, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Steiner and Visionary.
The biggest advantage of a compact binocular is the portability. It's like you are not carrying anything, but it's with you all the time. You don't have hesitate whether there will be space in the luggage for your binos. Carrying a full size binocular around your neck for a whole day will definitely cause you some fatigue problems. The main downside of compact binoculars is the exit pupil's size. Exit pupil is defined as the bright circle of light that comes out of the eyepiece. The smaller exit pupil size can make it harder for you to align the compact binocular to your eyes. And if you make sudden moves on the field, then your eye will go totally or partially outside of the exit pupil so you won't see anything at that moment. Sentinel is a compact binocular from Carson is. It's stylish, yet compact with fully coated lenses, BK-7 prisms to provide reduced internal glare and bright images. Once again, this binocular is made for the people on the move, it's really lightweight and compact so you can carry it anywhere with you. It's is 10x25, with maximum focusing distance of 13 feet. It can easily fit into your pocket so that it will be ready for you every time you run upon something special. The downside of having a binocular with larger diameter is that it becomes bulky, cumbersome, heavy, hard to handle and carry. That's why, depending on your goals and what you will be using the binocular for, you must choose between image quality and size. When you sacrifice the image clarity a bit, you will get a more compact and manageable model.
